Very Reverend Christopher Marino, VF

8th Rector of The Cathedral of St. Mary (2012-2024)

Father Christopher Benjamin Marino was born July 27, 1967, in Flushing, N.Y. His family later moved to South Florida, and in 1985 he graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory (now Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory) in Hollywood. After his freshman year at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., he was accepted as a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Miami. He studied at St. John Vianney College Seminary in Miami and St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, and was ordained April 16, 1993. Prior to being named a Pastor, Fr. Marino has served as parochial vicar, chaplain and teacher in a number of parishes and schools within the Archdiocese of Miami: Immaculate Conception, St. Agatha, St. James, Holy Family, Columbus High School and Archbishop Curley-Notre Dame High School. From 2003-2008 Pastor of Visitation, 2008-2012 Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel, 2012-2024 Rector of The Cathedral of St. Mary, 2024-Present Rector of The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea.
  • In addition to his seminary degrees (B.A Philosophy and M.A. Theology), Fr. Marino holds an Education Specialist degree.
  • In 1996 he was nominated as a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem and in 2024 as a Chaplain to the Cuban Association of the Order of Malta.
  • Since 1995 he has followed the Ecclesial Movement Communion and Liberation.
  • In 2017 Fr. Marino was appointed as Fire Chaplain of the City of Miami Fire and Rescue.
  • On June 17, 2024 Fr. Marino began his appointment as Rector of The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea.

Fr. Marino speaks English, Spanish and Italian. His hobbies include cooking, travel and fishing.
